Sophia Thrale has sent me a Present of curious Pens; very new & neat & portable I returned her these Verses in three hours Time … They really write Hebrew very nicely.

To give my lovely Girl Delight
What with her Present shall I write?
What Character assume?
A plodding Scholar best they'll fit,
For Foes to feather-headed Wit
Are pens without a Plume.

Verses: "Pens"
