Thrale history

MACKERYE END, SANDRIDGE, HERTFORDSHIRE, ENGLAND

Tree: UK Thrale family

Notes:

One of the farms held by the Thrale family from the 15th century, or possibly earlier. A nephew of John of Wheathampstead, John Willey, alias Heyworth, had married Elizabeth Thrale and lived at Mackerye End like his father and son. He died in 1520, and brasses of the family are still visible in Wheathampstead Church.

This farm became more widely known in 1833 through the essays of Charles Lamb.
