Sir John SALUSBURY
Abt 1567 - 1613 (46 years)-
Name John SALUSBURY [1] Prefix Sir Birth Abt 1567 Gender Male Physical Description Had two thumbs on each hand Death 1613 Notes - The Salusbury family were at a low ebb. This disgrace brought about a separation between John and Ursula, which I believe is described in the highly allusive 'Love's Martyr' by Robert Chester, a retainer in the Salusbury household, and in Shakespeare's poem 'The Phoenix and the Turtle' which I believe was written during this period.
However, love triumphed over circumstances, and the two (the faithful turtle-dove, John Salusbury and Ursula, the colourful and high-born phoenix) were married to great ceremony (a masque being specially written for the occasion) at Lleweni, Denbigh, in December 1586. [2]
