  	He decided at about 20, to enter the hotel business and the agitation about the time of the start of the Civil War found him managing a Hotel in New Orleans. From there, he wrote interesting letters home, particularly to his sister "Franc" or Frances who was his favourite. He continued in the hotel business until his two sons were about half-grown, living invarious parts of the country, lastly in Omaha, Nebraska.

  Notes	Was one of two sons and several daughters of a well-known lawyer, locally educated. His great delight was his family and he was never happier than when most or all of his descendants were around him The big old house he bought on Gross Ile, about twenty miles from Detroit and on an island in the Detroit River, was the family home until his death and did often hold all the children and grandchildren of his branch of the family. George had a delightful sense of humour and a great kindliness. He was a successful businessman and a beloved and respected husband, father and grandfather. It can truly be said, "His word is his bond." [2, 3]
